We offer individual & group psychotherapy for adolescents and adults, particularly for those who were emotionally or sexually abused, neglected or parentified as children. Our other endeavour is to provide for the bereaved.
Our philosophy of mental health
Our mental health lies not only within each of us, but also between us. We are relational beings, and the people and environment around us are constantly interacting with and influencing our state of mind. It follows then that one of the cornerstones of better mental health is feeling connected and supported during difficult moments.
The responsibility towards mental health lies with each of us, both for our own well-being and that of those around us. It is on us to break, say, intergenerational cycles of trauma, or get help for ourselves when we see that our distress is impacting those around us.
We believe we are each doing the best we can with the knowledge and experiences we’ve had in our past. We can together work on the choices we’d like to make to intentionally shape the life we’d like to have ahead of us. This can only be done with a mutual dedication to our mental health, and of course, with kindness. After all, change can only occur when we can feel safe, mind and body.
We strive for a balance between working towards your goals for therapy, while making sure we give enough ourselves time to leave you with a lasting sense of hope, agency and resourceful.
Our therapies
-
Individual therapy
These are one to one sessions with your therapist. You can bring anything and everything to your sessions, process it with your therapist, and work with them towards addressing your concerns and issues, to come to a greater understanding of yourself, and to learn effective personal & interpersonal coping strategies. You realize, essentially, other ways of being in your world that feel safer, calmer and better resourced.
-
Group therapy for parentification
If as children you were expected to constantly care for the adults around you and had to take on mature roles before you were ready, you might be parentified. Through group therapy, we learn how to trust our own experiences and find ways to reparent ourselves with the compassion we always needed. We may go a step further and experiment with taking space in a group situation and containing the anxiety that may come with it, or then try to express anger that previously made us worry.
-
Group therapy for grief & bereavement
How do we make sense of something as painful as the death of a loved one? Grief can be terribly heavy to bear, isolating, frustrating, maddening, even. It creates a divide between our inner worlds and the world outside, which seems to go on as though nothing was lost. It can be helpful to have a space to share with others who know exactly how we feel, support our grief, help us make sense of this new world we find ourselves in and feel through what it means to continue to live.
Confidentiality policy
We abide by the highest standards in maintaining your confidentiality. With the exception of certain specific information (to do with abuse and harm), you have the absolute right to the confidentiality of your therapy for all time. Your therapist will not tell anyone else what you have told them, or even that you are in therapy with them without your prior permission.
Our confidentiality policies are covered in detail in the first session itself. These are also shared with you in written vie email.
Cancellation Policy
The intense and personal nature of therapy requires that we work with very few patients at a time. So the time that is allotted to you on your therapist’s calendar, is kept strictly for you. You may cancel or reschedule a minimum of 48 hours in advance; else, the session will be charged in full.
This will also be discussed in detail in the first session itself, and will be shared with you in written via email.
Supervision & Continued Education
We undertake routine supervision from experts in the field and specialists to help us learn and do better for you. We also participate in specialized and advanced trainings to add our knowledge and skill set.
